How to care for your Sterling Silver and Copper artisan jewelry
Sterling Silver is an alloy made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually Copper. It is strong and beautiful. When polished it has a lustrous sheen.
A patina or tarnish develops on Sterling Silver and Copper jewelry that is worn often. Pollutants in the air and water cause silver and copper to tarnish. It is never a good idea to exercise or swim in your handcrafted Sterling Silver or Copper jewelry. Light also speeds up the tarnish process.
To clean your jewelry, it is a good idea to rinse it in a mild soap and warm water solution. Pat it dry after each time you wear it to remove surface dirt and oils. Use a polishing cloth to keep it shiny and bright.
Store your Sterling Silver and Copper jewelry in an anti tarnish jewelry bag or a zip-lock bag and keep it out of the sun.
Antiqued or Oxidized finishes are achieved by applying silver black or by normal wearing. Do Not use a dip type silver cleaner on antiqued finishes because it will remove most of the blackened areas. A soft polishing cloth will keep it nice and bright.
You can keep it your Sterling Silver and Copper polished and bright or you can embrace the patina and enjoy the natural process that distinguishes it and makes it become uniquely yours!
